I have been with the Standard Democrat sports department since 2007. I took over as sports editor in May of 2011 and have been slightly crazy about sports since I can remember. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and Scott County Central High School. I co-created our sports web show "The Last Word" and my two children, Elijah and CJ. I was married to my wife, Angie, in May of 2014. I love to golf, I am an avid NBA2K gamer and root for the Fighting Irish on Saturdays.

Real time and slow motion video of Thursday's disputed SCC-NMCC game-winner

Here is our video of last night's controversial game-winner between SCC and NMCC. I thought watching it live that it was late. After watching it a second time it was a little closer than I thought, but still late.

Let's all remember we have the benefit of replay after the fact. Tough call to see for the first and only time.

Hahaha, I dont even have speakers on my computer and can tell it was late. Sounded like a really fun game, though.

I've seen my share of crazy high school finishes, so let me say the kid scoring the last basket didn't know whether to celebrate for the win or for sakes of referees considering that he had got the shot off in time. Not bashing at all, cause I am a big SEMO basketball fan and I love the competitiveness, but the kid with the final bucket had a suspect grin like "I know I didn't get it off in time, but as long as me and my teammates are excited in our home gym...that's a W"

IMO the kid with the assist took too much time off the clock for their to be another successful pass and shot.

Hopefully referees won't make a mistake like this in district play. A call like this would leave many fans frustrated.

I know we don't and won't get funded for instant replay in SEMO. But regardless of what gym you are in, one of three referees had to have noticed the expired time before the release. But if not, then its hometown cooking for dinner. And you can't beat that. ;)

24/7, very close call to make as an official, even when slowed down to 50% speed it was hard to tell exactly. Always a little lag time to allow for human response. Remember electronics(horn and clock are faster than a person recognizing and then making a decisions. One official is designated to make the decision, lead or trail ref facing the table, not all three officials as you imply. As far as home cooking, no way. Those officials ref at both schools and could give a care about who wins.

Agree with semo ref, even at 50 hard to tell, those guys had to make the call on the spot, how is it in baseball the tie goes to the runner? Guess the tie goes to the shooter! I know if I was nmcc fan I would be upset or if call went other way and I was SCC fan I would be upset! I'm just upset I missed that game! I love the nail bitters!

There is no such thing as "tie goes to the runner" in baseball....And instant replay is the last thing high school sports needs.
