I have been with the Standard Democrat sports department since 2007. I took over as sports editor in May of 2011 and have been slightly crazy about sports since I can remember. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and Scott County Central High School. I co-created our sports web show "The Last Word" and my two children, Elijah and CJ. Scott County Central finds its new boys basketball coach

Scott County Central has found one of its own to take over the vacant boys basketball head coaching position.

Matt Cline, who spent the last three years at Richland High School, was confirmed as SCC's fourth head coach in the last seven years Tuesday. Cline will replace three-year coach Frank Staple, who accepted a principal's position at the Sikeston Junior High School in May.

Cline played for Scott County Central from 1989-91 while helping the Braves to three state championships during that time.

Despite the frequent coaching turnover, Scott Central has won six state championships since the 2008-09 season.

Staple guided the Braves to back-to-back state titles with the latest being a Class 2 championship last March. Kenyon Wright won three titles during 2010-12 and Hall of Fame head coach Ronnie Cookson, who holds 13 of SCC's state-record 18 championships, won his first since 1993 during the 2008-09 season.

Cline's coaching record during his tenure at Richland was 16-46.
