State teen death rate among highest (06/26/03)
SIKESTON -- Local officials report there haven't been many teen-related accidents this year, but according to the 2003 Kids Count Organization survey released earlier this month, the Missouri teen death rate is among the highest nationwide. "Mostly kids are just racing up and down the roads or we find out someone's having a keg party," said Capt. Brenda Schiwitz of the Scott County Sheriff's Department. "To be honest, accidents here (Scott County) haven't been that serious."...
Johnson to face murder charges (06/26/03)
BENTON - A Sikeston man will face first degree murder and other related charges for the May 2 stabbing death of his estranged girlfriend following his preliminary hearing Wednesday before Associate Circuit Court Judge David Mann. Percy Edgar Johnson, 34, is charged with first degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, first degree assault and felonious restraint for the death of Mary Rudd, also of Sikeston. His arraignment is set for July 10 in Scott County Circuit Court...
