Balanced offensive attack paces Eagles in easy 15-2 victory

ORAN -- The Oran Eagles wasted no time rattling the bats on Thursday afternoon in front of their home crowd, as they took care of the visiting Zalma Bulldogs 15-2 in five innings. Tyler Beardslee got things started batting in the two-slot, as he ripped a double to left-center field. Two batters later, clean-up batter Alex Chasteen brought him in with a double down the left field line.

The Eagles went on to score one more in the first inning and plated three more in the second which was jump-started by a one-out triple by Kody Campbell to center field.

Zalma had no answer as Oran's Cody L Dirnberger fanned four of the first seven batters he faced.

Dirnberger threw just two innings, giving up one free pass and had no hits or runs allowed. He struck out four while on the mound and was eventually awarded the victory.

In the bottom of the third the Eagles put the game out of reach, as they scored six more runs on just two hits, a triple from Steven Dooley and a double by Jayden Pobst. Five walks were handed out to Oran in the inning, and several runs came from passed balls or wild pitches.

Jake Carter then came into the game in relief of Dirnberger, and was solid from the mound as well. Carter threw three innings, allowing no runs or hits while striking out three.

The two Bulldog runs came at the hands of Zach Chasteen, who gave up just one hit but walked three.

"You know, it was just one of those games," said Oran head coach Mitch Wood after the game. "I thought our young pitchers threw okay. They came in and did a good job."

Offensively, the Eagles were led by a combination of six players. Campbell and Dooley recorded triples, while Beardslee, Alex Chasteen and Pobst each had doubles.

Beardslee had an RBI and three runs scored. Dooley plated three RBIs, Campbell scored two runs and Caleb Seyer crossed the plate three times as well.

"We hit the ball," said Wood. "We did a lot better job today running the bases, than we did yesterday (against Leopold). Overall I thought we hit the ball and ran the bases pretty good."

Recording the lone hit for Zalma was Bobby Kuper, which was a double with an RBI. Kuper eventually scored as well.

Nick Montgomery took the loss for the Bulldogs, throwing three innings, allowing 12 runs on five hits, while allowing eight walks, hitting four batters and striking out two.

Up next for Oran is a road game today, against the Dexter Bearcats. The contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
