SIKESTON - Billy Joe Greer, former track star of Sikeston High School, placed second in the low hurdle race in an MIAA indoor meet at Columbia last Saturday as a member of the Southeast Missouri State College squad.

SIKESTON - Delmar Alcorn, a charter member of the Elks Lodge, was named Elk of the Year at a banquet Saturday night at the Elks Club. About 100 persons were in attendance.

SIKESTON - At a press conference conducted at 10 a.m. today at the Sikeston Municipal Building, Rep. Dennis Ziegenhorn of Sikeston announced the approval of two grants for the MRM Industries project.

BENTON - For the last time, Scott County Treasurer H.J. "Cotton" Holyfield arrived at work about 8:30 this morning. Packing done and paperwork in hand, he will take his leave from public office just before 5 p.m. when another Holyfield is expected to arrives to file for office. Holyfield's wife, Mickey, a bookkeeper at Sikeston's Mercantile Bank, plans to file for the office of Scott County collector before the 5 p.m. deadline and after her husband leaves his office.


SIKESTON - Margaret Umfress, daughter of Jim and Nancy Umfress of Sikeston, has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. She will undergo six weeks basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas. A 1994 graduate of Thomas W. Kelly High School, Umfress will earn credits toward an associate degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force while attending basic and technical training schools.
