SPRINGFIELD -- Sikeston singles player Elizabeth Killion and two Charleston doubles teams competed in the Class 1A-3A Girls Tennis Championships at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield on Friday.
In the first round, Killion lost to John Burroughs' Annie Truetzel, 6-2, 6-1. Truetzel went on to win the championship, beating out Pembroke Hill's Katerine Powell in the title match, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
In the consolation match, Killion was defeated by Crossroads' Callen Sterling, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
In the doubles competition, Courtney McClendon and Britt Story defeated Greenwood's Lauren Meldi and Leslie Wooddell, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 in the first round.
In the quarterfinal round, the two were defeated by Pembroke Hill's Kathryn Magill and Whitney Spake, 6-0, 6-1.
Mindi Luehmann and Emily McDowell were defeated by Logan Rogersville's Samantha Little and Maggie Reynolds in the first round, 6-0, 6-2. In the consolation round, the two lost to Marshall's Emily Chevalier and Gerri Ravenhill, 6-1, 6-4.
