SIKESTON - The Sikeston ninth grade basketball team concluded its season on Monday night with a 70-61 loss to the Dexter Bearcats at the Sikeston Middle School.
Sikeston's freshman team finishes the season at 7-8.
"It was an up and down season," said Sikeston ninth grade coach Chris Sarakas. "We struggled at times this year. We didn't play consistent like we should the whole game, but we had 10 guys that were pretty comparable in their abilities. They'll get a whole lot better down the road when they get bigger, mature a little bit and play more."
Sikeston was led by Felante Larry's 16 points, Matt Limbaugh's 15 points and Josh Alvarado's 14 points.
Dexter employed a full-court press that gave the smaller Sikeston team trouble for much of the game. The Bearcats also hit several 3-pointers to keep the Bulldogs at bay.
"They play hard and they shot the ball extremely well," said Sarakas. "We just made a few turnovers that cost us a little bit. That's one of the best games of the year even though we lost. We never gave up."
