SCOTT CITY -- The Sikeston girls basketball team lost a heartbreaker Thursday night in Scott City 49-41.

Trailing 20-19 at halftime, Scott City (9-8) used a 20-8 third-quarter advantage to grab the lead and never looked back.

Amanda Raines and Christy Laxton scored 17 apiece for Scott City. Scott City has now won three of its last four.

Whitney McCray led the Lady Bulldogs (11-9) in scoring with 10 points.

Scott City also won the junior varsity contest 49-47. Sikeston will be in action again on Monday night when they host the state-ranked Jackson Lady Indians.

MORLEY - The Dexter Lady Bearcats took advantage of a 21-7 second quarter to pick up a win against the Scott County Central Bravettes, 69-50.

"Scott Central is always scrappy," said Dexter head coach Gavin Miller.

"We've played them three years in a row and it has always ended up being about a 20-point game, but they play a real scrappy, backyard type of basketball.

"They're not a bad club," Miller said. "They don't have a whole lot inside. We tried to alleviate [Janet] Penrod getting points, but she ended up scoring 21 and we've got to get better at stopping key players."

Charlotte Johnson for Dexter hit four 3-pointers for 12 points on the night. The senior guard broke the single season three-point record last Thursday against Charleston, previously set by Amy Rose last year with 45. Johnson now has a season total of 53 following four treys against Scott County.

"Charlotte has stepped up for us all year," Miller smiled. "I really, honestly didn't expect this from Charlotte. I knew she was going to hit threes, but she's come in here and she's been very unselfish. She shoots when she's open and she doesn't when she's not."

The Lady Bearcats will be in action again on Monday when they travel to Cape Notre Dame.

DELTA - Delta improved to 14-3 with a home win.

The Lady Bobcats held New Madrid County Central to three first-quarter points and led 22-18 at halftime. Delta opened the lead up in the fourth, outscoring NMCC 14-5.

Kaci Menz led Delta with 12 points, Sarah Cook had 11 and Shea Smith had 10.

Delta also won the junior varsity game 43-28.

ORAN - Oran scored seven first-half points and lost at home.

Oran trailed 25-7 at halftime and did not have anyone in double figures.

Tiffany Glastetter led Oran (1-10) with eight points.

Charleston was led in scoring by Missy Whitney's 26 points.
