SIKESTON - Resuming the season after three weekends without a game, the Sikeston Basketeers traveled to Charleston to overpower the Bluejays 30-12 Friday night. Paced by forward Walker, who dunked 14 points through the opposition hoop, the Bulldogs took an early lead from the Charleston quintet.

SIKESTON - After two days of bright, sunny weather, the Sikeston area was due to get precipitation - rain this afternoon turning to snow tonight.

SIKESTON - Architect Bob Stearnes presented completed plans and specifications for the new middle school to the Sikeston R-6 Board of Education Tuesday. The board accepted certification of the $3.1 million middle school bond issue passed in November.

CHARLESTON - Willie and Patricia Carpenter will be issued a liquor-by-the-drink license to operate the Bros' Kicking night club on West Marshall Street. Ministers voiced objection to the application; the City Council opposed it; but there is "no valid reason to reject the application." That conclusion was evident from the onset of discussion Tuesday evening.


NEW MADRID - Work on the levee at New Madrid is nearing completion by the Army Corps of Engineers. The old retaining wall was removed and the slope reworked. Steps will be built along two locations leading to the levee top from Waters Street.


SIKESTON - Eight candidates will compete at the Junior Miss Sikeston Winter Princess Pageant at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Sikeston Field House. They are: Elizabeth Farrenburg, Kara Ford, Jennifer McDowell, Marisa Morris, Jessica Parris, Jodi Warren and Celeste Terrell.
