SIKESTON - Two inches of snow which fell Saturday remained to cover the ground over the weekend in Sikeston. The streets were packed with snow and a number of accidents occurred as automobiles slid on icy streets.
SIKESTON - The Sikeston Post Office showed an increase in postal receipts in 1963 over the previous year, according to Ewart Taylor, assistant postmaster. The total receipts for 1963 were $218,000 compared to $184,000 for the preceding year, a gain of $34,000.
BERNIE - Bernie charged back from a 13-point first half deficit to beat Advance 76-66 in Stoddard County Conference play. "We switched our defenses some and it did affect them some," said Bernie coach Jim Davis. "I feel like our defense did a good job."
ORAN - Virginia Segers is not a typical 79-year-old woman. Sure, she has the usual interests of a person her age, and she's certainly not the first to raise six children. What makes her stand out above the rest is the fact that she is also the mother of 28 foster children and gladly welcomes more. "I feel like as long as you have something to do to take your minds off your aches and pains, you'll be fine," she said.
SIKESTON - After completing a rigorous course in foot an ankle arthroscopy, Dr. Hugh R. Protzel of Missouri Delta Foot and Ankle Center is now able to provide the community with a wide variety of arthroscopy techniques. Upon passing testing at the Columbus, Ohio, seminar, Protzel was made a full member of the American Podiatric Arthroscopy Association.
