SIKESTON - An office of the Wright Crop Control Co., doing aerial dusting, seeding, defoliating and insect control has been opened in Sikeston by Joe Wright.


SIKESTON - Lee Bowman of Sikeston will likely be a fullback for the Missouri Tigers when they open their 1947 grid season.

PORTAGEVILLE - Frisco Freight cars were pulled up and derailed because of an equipment failure on a northbound freight train. The derailment occurred on the south edge of Portageville at 4 p.m.

SIKESTON - Students in Darlene Sanders' third grade class at Southeast Elementary School wrote and signed a class constitution as part of their studies of the 200th anniversary of the original document. Their version set down such laws as to be polite and courteous, help others, not run and respect private property. Classmates, along with school administrators, teachers and other officials signed the document.


SIKESTON - Some solutions to legal questions couldn't be answered in the September meeting of the Southern Scott County Ambulance District Thursday at the Missouri Delta Medical Center. It was decided in discussion that Frank Foster, legal counsel from the Missouri Department of Health, might aid the board.

CHARLESTON - Mississippi County Commissioners reviewed the most recent plans of the new Mississippi County Courthouse at their Thursday meeting. According to Engineer Bill Green, the project has moved from the study phase into the design phase and blueprints need to be finalized and approved to continue the project.


CARUTHERSVILLE - In only their eighth match of the season, Sikeston's tennis squad has already reached one of the team goals set at the beginning of the year. Head coach Suzanne Hart set winning at least four matches as one of her first goals. On Thursday, Sikeston picked up their fourth win of the season, defeating Caruthersville 5-4.
