NEW MADRID - The Sikeston golf team opened its season with a 167-214 win against New Madrid County Central on Monday.
"I was pleased with our performance today, we shot 167 which is in line with openers of years past," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting. "The course in New Madrid has small greens and require a lot of finesse. Our team learned a lesson why we practice the short game."
Medalist for the round was E.C. Atchison with a 2-over par 38 followed by Martin Schaefer 41, Darris Butler 42 and Zed Hagen 46.
"Zed had trouble on the last hole or he would have turned in a much better round," said Oetting. "He occupies the number four spot for now. Our number five and six man is still undetermined but it looks like we have several hopefuls fighting it out. This may flip back and forth for much of the year."
NMCC was led by Robbins (49), Stobaugh (54), Fowler (55) and Warf (56).
Sikeston's junior varsity defeated NMCC 204-243.
Sikeston was led by Wagoner 48, Hess 49, Bowman 51, Kruger 56. NMCC was led by May 57, Stevens 58, Pollard 63, Campbell 65.
