SIKESTON -- Mary Ellen Stallings Rushing, 88, went to meet her Lord and Savior Nov. 28, 2007, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Bertrand, daughter of the late William Melvin and Annie Laurie Finley Johnson. She graduated from Sikeston High School in 1937. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston, where she was active on the Kitchen Committee and sang in the Living Christmas Tree for 20 years.

On Dec. 25, 1938, she married Homer L. Stallings Jr. and he preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1983. They had two children, one daughter, JeanAnne Eason, who preceded her in death on April 9, 2000; and one son, H. Lee (Pat) Stallings of San Antonio; and one son-in-law, Benny Eason and his wife, Patsy, of Sikeston.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Michael (Linda) Lee of St. Charles, LeAnne Stallings, Kristi (Tim) Wheetley, Quad Stallings and Andrew (Laurie) Eason, all of Sikeston; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew and Rachel Lee of St. Charles, and Connor Stallings, Chance Wheetley, Trace Wheetley, Dakota Ray and Landry Eason, all of Sikeston; and her extended family, Brenda Sailors, Charles Lee and Lena Lee, all of Sikeston; and several special nieces and nephews.

On Aug. 8, 1993, she married Charles Rushing, who preceded her in death May 29, 2000. She had two stepsons, Brad Rushing and Randy Rushing of Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Cleavo, Eldridge, Carl, Stanford, Stanley and Billy Johnson; and two sisters, Frances J. Wallace and Othel J. Cromeans.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. today. The Rev. David Jackson, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers were: Michael Lee, Matthew Lee, Andrew Eason, Quad Stallings, Connor Stallings and Tim Wheetley.

Honorary pallbearers were: Benny Eason, Charles Lee, Jim Barnes, Mike Parker, Don Swilley, Charles Chaney, Allen Baker and Jerome Hulehan.
