Fighting the blaze

Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers fight a fire at the home of Arbey Newton on New Madrid County Highway 728 Friday night. Sikeston DPS was called to the scene by the New Madrid Fire Department at approximately 10 p.m. According to the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, Newton's wife was home when the fire started, and she made the emergency call from the home around 9:26 p.m. She escaped with minor burns, but the home was destroyed. The cause of the fire was unknown at press time.
