SCHERTZ, Texas - Hazel Marie Douglas West, 84, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died at 10:45 a.m. Jan. 5, 2004, at Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak.
Born Jan. 19, 1919, at Matthews, Mo., daughter of the late Charles and LeLia Marie Detye Hardin, she had worked in marketing for Stix-Baer and Fuller Department Stores in St. Louis, Mo. She lived in Sikeston from 1992-1998 where she attended Tanner Street Church of God and moved to Schertz in 1998, where she attended the First Baptist Church and was a member of the Rebekah Sunday school class. She was a former member of Chapter 64 Order of the Eastern Star in Webster Groves, Mo.
On Nov. 2, 1935, she married Franklin Willard Douglas who preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1987. She and Elmer West were married June 3, 1989, and he died in December 1994.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Marjorie Douglas of Schertz; one daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Ron Szabo of Oxnard, Calif.; one stepson, Maurice West of O'Fallon, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Camille West of House Springs, Mo.; one brother, William Hardin of Hayti, Mo.; two sisters, Darlene DeWeiss of Princeton, W.Va., and Charlotte Watkins of Hayti; and five grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-granchildren.
Two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time at 11 a.m. at Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Rev. Carl Addison, pastor of Tanner Street Church of God, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie, Mo.
