SIKESTON -- Two people are behind bars after being arrested on drug-related charges by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
James Baker, 19, of Sikeston, was located at Rhodes 101 Stop at 535 N. Main at just before 1:45 a.m. Sunday. Baker, who had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to comply, fled as officers approached and a foot pursuit began.
The pursuit continued for two blocks before officers were able to apprehend Baker on Moore Street.
Upon searching Moore, officers found over two grams of crack cocaine. Baker was arrested and charged with a Class B felony of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
DPS officers also arrested Mario William West, 24, Friday at 10:22 a.m. after a vehicle stop.
Officers stopped West, who had violated his probation, and a subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a small amount of rock cocaine and marijuana.
West was charged with Class A felony of drug trafficking in the second degree and is presently being held in Scott County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
