BENTON - The Kelly Lady Hawks basketball team picked up a huge win on Monday night by defeating Charleston 49-35 at Kelly High School.
Kelly led from the start, taking an 11-4 advantage after one and a 20-14 lead at the half.
The Lady Hawks extended the lead to 34-22 entering the fourth quarter.
Kelly (11-6) got 21 points out of Kelly Essner.
"That's a big scoring night," said Kelly head coach Rod McQuerter. "She had the opportunities and the other girls were getting her the ball. It was a total team effort. We had nine different girls score tonight."
The Lady Hawks also kept Charleston's post combo of Missy Whitney and Shytoria Davis in check, limiting them to nine and eight points respectively.
"Charleston is a very, very talented basketball team," said McQuerter.
"Davis and Whitney in my opinion are two of the best players in the area. They're very, very tough. So we're very pleased to come out with a victory."
Kelly will play at New Madrid County Central a week from this Thursday at 6 p.m.
