SHS golfers beat Dexter, Jackson in triangular

Wednesday, April 14, 2004

DEXTER - The Sikeston golf team won a triangular with Dexter and Jackson at the Hidden Trails Golf course in Dexter.

Sikeston's E.C. Atchison was the low medalist, shooting a one-over par 37.

"It was a very windy day so to shoot a score like E. C. Atchison did was great," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting.

Sikeston shot 165 while Dexter and Jackson tied with a 169. Dexter won the score card playoff beating Jackson's No. 6 player by one stroke.

Scoring for the Dogs were Atchison 37, Jason Deere 41, Martin Schaefer 43 and Clint Bohannon 44.

The Bearcats shooters were Chris Guethle 39, Tyler Holden 40, Aaron Jackson 45 and Megan Agee 45.

The Indians were Chase Walker 40, Eric Fraley 42, Blake McDowell 43 and Ryan Mouser 44.

The Sikeston JV took second. Scoring for the JV were Ed Pike, Trey Oetting, Garrett Wagoner and Ryan Dukes.

LEOPOLD - On the brink of being beaten in five innings, Leopold rallied for an 18-13 nonconference softball victory against visiting Woodland on Tuesday.

Tasha Thele and Samantha Bueter each had four hits for Leopold.

Thele had three doubles and drove in five runs, while Bueter drove in three runs.

Mary Beth Bohnsack survived four rough innings to pick up the win by shutting out Woodland over the final three innings. She advanced to 4-2 with the complete-game effort and has all of the Wildcats' decisions.

Woodland scored five runs in the first inning and built a 13-0 lead through four.

Leopold scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to keep the game going and then exploded for 13 runs in the sixth to post the victory.

"It was a neat game," Leopold coach Keenan Kinder said. "It's a big rivalry because we're so close together. We capitalized on some errors and walks, and we had some hits at the right time in the sixth inning. It was kind of like what Woodland did in the first four innings."

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Blake Driskell shot a 1-over-par 36 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club, as the Tigers (6-0) won easily to remain undefeated in duals and triangulars.

Will Lindman led Notre Dame with a 41.

LEOPOLD --Woodland scored twice in the top of the seventh to edge host Leopold.

Anthony Grojean had four hits for the Cardinals (8-1). Matt Upchurch was the winning pitcher. Michael Vandeven had two hits for Leopold (2-5).

JACKSON - Kylie Werner recorded her seventh shutout in goal as Jackson won at home.

Shay Priester, Lucy Hartmann, Molly Hartmann, K.T. Biri and Whitney Dietl scored for the Indians (8-3-1). Priester had two assists while Hannah Kohm and both Hartmanns added assists.

Chastity Marr played 66 minutes in goal for Perryville (4-4) and made 14 saves.

Kelley Hadler finished the game in net for the Pirates.
