SIKESTON - Barbara Lou Ivie, 68, began her life in Nortonville, Hopkins County, Ky., on Aug. 16, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Mary Copeland. She passed away on March 11, 2004, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
She came to the Sikeston area in the late 1950s, where she cooked and managed restaurants. Her last employer was Ginny Lyman Petty at the Gaslight Square in Sikeston and at Kentucky Lake. She was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Morehouse.
Survivors include: two sons, James Ivie of Sikeston and Ronald Ivie of Lilbourn; two daughters, Sherry Wright of Sikeston and Diane Polley of Denver; one brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Donald and Linda Gamblin of Brunswick, Ga.; one sister, Phyllis Fish of Brunswick; one sister-in-law, Mary Piper of East Prairie; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including John Spain Howard of East Prairie and Teresa Cruz of Brunswick; and a special friend, Debbie Garrett of Oran.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a brother-in-law, Roy Piper; and her mother-in-law, Carrie Ivie.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First General Baptist Church in Morehouse. The Rev. Randy Thomas, pastor, will officiate, assisted by Barbara's brother, the Rev. Donald Gamblin, an Assemblies of God minister.
