SIKESTON - Fifty-two lots in the P.V. Branum addition were sold at auction Sunday afternoon, and brought a total of $32,600.

SIKESTON - The Kroger Store will close Saturday to make way for the Two Tony's Smorgasbord. A representative from the Kroger Company confirmed today that the store will close. No immediate plans for opening another store were announced, although officials say a new store may be possible.

June 26, 1987

NEW MADRID - Bill Pinnell, director of the New Madrid County Port Authority, updated state and local officials on construction of the slack-water harbor in the St. Jude Industrial Park near Marston. The second phase of construction, to include dredging to create the slack-water harbor and the building up of the site, is to begin soon.

EAST PRAIRIE - Fourth of July festivities got under way in East Prairie with the selection of Brooke Ferrell as Junior Miss Fourth of July.

SIKESTON - Jerry Vann has never been afraid of a little hard work. Today, Vann can't even spend more than 15-20 minutes at a time mowing the lawn. His lifelong dream of being a successful farmer has come to an abrupt halt since contracting an illness from being around certain chemicals involved in farming.

SIKESTON - With a trip to Missoula, Mont., Rachel Leist is experiencing the life of an actress for the first time. Leist was chosen to attend the North Shore performing arts camp in Missoula Aug. 10-24. While there, the campers participate in a series of rehearsals, in preparation for a full-length production presented in Missoula at the end of the camp.
