SIKESTON - William Heath Self, 21, died April 28, 2004, one mile north of Sikeston of injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

Born March 2, 1983, in Sikeston, son of Dewayne and Wendy Baker Self of Sikeston, he was a member of Miner Baptist Church, where he taught the first grade Sunday school class.

A 2001 graduate of Sikeston High School, he was a junior at Southeast Missouri State University where he majored in physical education. During his high school career, he was a varsity letterman in football, baseball and basketball. Self was a counselor for Missouri Sport Crusaders Basketball, a member of Baptist Student Union at Southeast and worked for Jay Reed Construction Company in Sikeston. He also enjoyed hunting, singing and playing guitar and was a regular donor for the American Red Cross. With his continual concern for others, he was a registered organ donor.

Survivors in addition to his parents include: two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jared Dewayne and Kaci Self and Thomas Brent Self of Sikeston; his maternal grandparents, Don and Rita Baker of Sikeston; paternal grandparents, Don and Jerrolyn Self of Sikeston; one nephew, Jared Nolan Self of Sikeston; his girlfriend, Heather Dawn Dockins of Sikeston; and 10 aunts and uncles and 12 cousins, all of Sikeston.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sikeston Field House. The Rev. Mitchell Jackson, pastor of Miner Baptist Church, and Jason Grubbs, student pastor of the church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Ryan Griggs, Ben Nelson, Josh Mills, Patrick Hayes, Nathan Tuschoff and Dave Merrill.
