MALDEN - Aquilla Cooper, 91, died Oct. 13, 2001, at the Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Oct. 12, 1910, at Malden, daughter of the late P.A. and Rosa Belle Gulledge Stocks, she worked as a clerk in grocery stores in Malden and Bernie for 26 years. A member of the Lone Oak General Baptist Church near Malden for more than 50 years, she taught the Ladies Bible class and was a member of the choir.
On March 10, 1928, at Bloomfield, she married Norvel S. Cooper, who preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1981. Also she was preceded in death by one grandson, Howard Ray Cooper, who died July 5, 1991; two brothers, Elvin Stocks and Alfred Stocks; and five sisters, Cleoria Roark, Gertie Pyle, Millie Blades, Ethel Stocks and one infant sister.
Survivors include: three daughters and sons-in-law, Doris F. and Gene Cavin of Jefferson, Wis., Lois and Gary Creg of St. Louis and Connie and Harlan Gist of Pacific; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Verlon and Martha Cooper of Collierville, Tenn., and Howard L. and Cathy Cooper of Bernie; and 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Donald Lee Cooper will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
