On the tow: Sikeston Auto Service expands

SIKESTON - Mike Partin says that typically when he gets calls from customers they might just be a bit grumpy.

"When you need a tow truck or a mechanic, you are already having a bad day, that is why we try to make the rest of your experience as stress free as we can," said the owner of Sikeston Auto Service, 602 Linn St.

And to make it a bit easier for his customers, Partin has expanded his service and added to his staff.

Randy Baker joined Sikeston Auto Service in early August as the business' general manager and as a tow truck operator. Also Baker assists in car sales and general mechanical work.

With some 20 years in the construction business, Baker really gained a familiarity with Sikeston, Miner and the surrounding area while serving as a firefighter, including three years as the Miner fire chief.

Don Massey came on board in December at Sikeston Auto Service as a mechanic. Massey has a background in law enforcement, fire fighting and construction.

As owner along with his wife, Sherry, Partin also is active in all parts of the business. He has 20 years experience as a technician, is GM certified and is a fuel-injection specialist.

The additional personnel, explained Partin, was needed as Sikeston Auto Service began offering 24-hour towing service. The new modern tow trucks feature roll and wheel-lift capabilities.

While towing - both local and regional - is an obvious service, the business owner explained they now provide vehicle recovery, jump-starting, accident processing, roadside assistance and lock-out service with their new trucks. The SAS towing service is already part of the tow-truck rotation used by Sikeston Department of Public Safety and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Partin added.

A service member for the All-State Motor Club, Partin said the business has applied for AAA status, too.

"We do just about everything," said Partin, pointing out Sikeston Auto Service has complete auto service from the shops which feature several mechanic's bay. They are able to rebuild vehicles and also have a car lot where vehicles are available for purchase.

The changes at Sikeston Auto Service will continue over the next few months as work begins on a new 80 by 60-foot building. This will make room for more services, such as frame machine, Partin said.

The telephone number for 24-hour roadside assistance and wrecker service is 472-4131.

Sikeston Auto Service is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The business telephone number is 472-3342.
