SIKESTON - The Navy Department has notified Mrs. Ada White Aldrich her son, Gene Davis Aldrich, is missing in the Pacific.

CHARLESTON - Five young people are dead and two critically injured after an auto race on Highway 60, two miles east of here. Two cars started racing at high speeds. When one vehicle ran off the road, hit a muddy shoulder and slid into a pole, the other car drove off.

SIKESTON - Five Sikeston wrestlers have advanced to this weekend's state high school championships in Columbia. This year's list of Sikeston qualifiers was led by Nathan Stallings, who won the team's only first-place medal with a victory in the 145-pound division.

SIKESTON - In this age of career-switching, it isn't easy to find someone who has had the same job for 20 years. It is even more difficult to find someone under 40 who has. Meet Randy Couch. He has been repairing musical instruments at Collins Music Co. for over 20 years (21 years in April) and is only 37 years old. He has learned to play 27 instruments proficiently, at least well enough to tell if there is something wrong with them, and he has never been faced with an impossible repair.
