Speakout 5/4

Tuesday, May 4, 2004

To the person who responded to my SpeakOut article, "Ready to help," I am the person who has to relocate because the railroad track is going to demolish the home I'm living in. You asked for my phone number. Call me at 471-6620. I appreciate your help.

Why do people always portray farmers in 1930's attire, almost cartoonish attire? Every other sector of the work force is portrayed in 2004 attire.

To the person looking for parts for a Honda 125 4-wheeler, I have two parts vehicles. Call me at (573) 450-6038 (and they are here around Sikeston).

To the East Prairie City Council, the senior citizens of this town do not thank you for putting the carnival down the middle of East Main Street. I know you could have had it in the park, as usual because you had to use the grant to beautify the city, so you planted a bunch of trees in that park. Today, as we went to the nutrition center for lunch or to the transit system, where are we supposed to park? There is very little space to park in the back because the nutrition center's delivery staff has to park there to unload the food. We can't park behind the old bread store. Some of us are handicapped using walkers and canes to get around. Some senior citizens tried to go there today for lunch, but finding no parking spaces, went back home without eating. I am a senior citizen and I don't appreciate this. If you plan to have a fall carnival there, please consider us seniors and move it somewhere else.

The best way to voice your opinion would be to attend the next East Prairie City Council meeting so your concerns can be heard.

I know the housing authority sent out letters telling tenants to put their trash cans behind the houses and move them to the front the night before their trash pick-up day. There are four on our street who take their cans behind the houses. The rest of the tenants leave theirs in front of the homes, filled up and running over with trash falling out. That is going to make a terrible stench this summer. If people value their homes, they will take care of their yards too. This shows what they are.

Contact the housing authority.

Someone called in about the school bus driver honking the horn on Missouri Avenue. The best advice I could offer to you is to move or shut up. Apparently you don't have children or you would appreciate the courtesy of the driver honking the horn because the buses do tend to run at different times.
