SIKESTON -- The Sikeston girls soccer team was held scoreless for the second straight game in a 4-0 loss to the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules Monday night at the Sikeston Sports Complex.

The Lady Bulldogs hung tough with Poplar Bluff in the first half, allowing only one goal to Lauren Ploetze at the 31st minute.

"I thought we played a great first half," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "We held them to one goal and it was a pinball in front of the net that we couldn't have done anything about."

However, Poplar Bluff scored just minutes into the second half when Ploetze again scored on an assist from her sister Kristen Ploetze at the 43rd minute.

"In the second half they scored pretty quick on us and that put us back on our heels a little bit," Long said.

At the 62nd minute Kristen Ploetze scored on a pass from Elizabeth Running and Lady Mule leading scorer Samantha Gaines added another goal at the 76th minute on an assist from Kristen Ploetze.

"I thought we played good defense but they have a lot of quick girls," Long said. "We are having trouble scoring so when we get down a couple of goals it is real hard for us to come back."

In junior varsity action, Poplar Bluff downed Sikeston 6-0.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action again today when they travel to Farmington.
