SIKESTON - Lt. Charles Allen Cook recently arrived at the Army air base in Blythe, Calif., for heavy bombardment combat crew training that will prepare the way for more B-24 Liberator Bomber raids on Axis strongholds.


SIKESTON - Mary Burns is now manager of the Walgreen Drug Store soda fountain and lunch counter.

SIKESTON - Three hats have been tossed into the ring for the citywide school election April 7. Robert L. Mitchell and Bruce L. Lewis are seeking re-election and John M. Houchin, who wants one of the two open places to be filled on the board of education of District R-6.


BENTON - Robert Mitchell has been named chairman of the Scott County Bush for Governor Club, according to John Inglish, Bush campaign chairman.

SIKESTON - Gloria Flower and Andrew Stein have joined the staff at the Bootheel Mental Health Center, replacing the two staff members who left earlier this year. Flower is a resident of Morehouse and Stein will live in Sikeston with is wife and their three children.


CHAFFEE - Dorothy Wolfe will replace Miriam Ferris as the full-time librarian of the Chaffee Library.

SIKESTON - The celebrities and local talent may be different each year, but the success of the Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Telethon is always the same - astounding. It opened Saturday at 9 a.m. with $21,286, an increase of $3,586 from last year.
