Ryan Kleffer, a fifth grader at Richland Elementary, recently competed with the Jets Gold AAU basketball team out of St. Louis which finished fifth in the nation. He was one of 10 players on the team out of 45 boys that tried out. The team played over 100 games in six months against mostly sixth grade teams. After placing in the Ozark Regionals this past spring the team qualified to attend nationals in July. They played a total of 10 games in a week only losing one in the quarterfinal round by four points against a team that went on to take first in the nation. The Jets Gold went to the fifth place bracket where they won every other game by at least 15 points. Kleffer finished his last two games at nationals with an average of 8.5 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals per game while playing power forward.
