NEW MADRID - Mr. and Mrs. Furgison Hunter of New Madrid are parents of a son born Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Their second son, he is their third child.
SIKESTON - Kingshighway Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution announced winners of the American history essay contest in the fifth and sixth grades of the public schools. Winners were: Mark Adams, fifth grade, South Grade School; and Lee Austin Bowman, a sixth grade student at Lee Hunter.
SIKESTON - Top winners in the senior division of the seventh annual Sikeston Junior and Senior High School Science Fair have been announced. Bobbie Simpson's "Do the chemicals in everyday washing aids affect the natural fiber threads in our clothing?" took top honors among the physical science projects. Jeff Lester earned the title of best biological science project in the senior division for his work, "The affect of stress on amylase in saliva II."
SIKESTON - Only one day remains for those planning to make a donation to the Sikeston Public Library Expansion Fund before Tuesday's deadline. The Library Board of Trustees is coming to the end of a fund-raising campaign effort to commit $150,000 from the community to help finance a 75,000-square-foot addition to the present facility.
