EAST PRAIRIE -- The East Prairie Eagles got a stellar pitching performance from Ben Walters to key a 5-2 win over Kelly in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday.

Walters (3-1) tossed a six hitter, allowing two earned runs with one walk and five strikeouts behind an errorless defense.

Kaleb Thurman's two-run bases loaded double was the big hit in a three-run third-inning uprising with the Eagles clinging to a slim 2-1 lead.

Ryan Adams and Jacob Poore led a seven-hit Eagle attack with two hits each. Lamar Holdiness and Danny Bright added one hit apiece.

East Prairie improved to 10-3.

SCOTT CITY -- A shaky first inning proved the undoing of the Charleston Blue Jays in a 5-1 loss to district opponent Scott City on Tuesday.

A couple of walks sandwiched around an error loaded the bases for Scott City, setting up Jason Schenimann's two-run single. The Rams scored four in the inning.

The Blue Jays (9-6) mounted a mild threat in the fifth, scoring one run, but the rally fell short as the inning ended with the bases jammed.

Travis McCann collected Charleston's only two hits.

Marcus Dixon (2-4) took the loss. He allowed two earned runs in six innings on six hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts.

Charleston meets Oran in a Scott-Mississippi Conference game on Thursday at 4 p.m.

ORAN -- The Oran Eagles scored early and often against the Woodland Cardinals at home Tuesday afternoon, improving to 10-2 with a 19-0 win.

Oran's Austin Dumey was the winning pitcher, throwing four innings giving up only three hits and one walk while striking out four.

The Eagles were led at the plate by Trevor Irwin who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs. Matt Seyer finished 2-for-4 with an RBI; Chase Seyer went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Craig Friga went 2-3 with four RBIs.

Oran will be back in action on Thursday when they host the Charleston Bluejays in a Scott-Mississippi Conference contest.

ESSEX -- Scott Central's Daniel Holman struck out 16 batters in the Braves' 8-2 win over Richland Tuesday afternoon.

Holman threw a complete game, allowing only two runs on three hits and three walks. Both runs came in the bottom of the seventh for the Rebels.

Holman also starred at the plate where he collected two hits along with Josh Woods and Pershard Owens.

Scott Central (3-4) will travel to East Prairie today.
