SIKESTON - Laura Elizabeth Henry Schaefer, 83, died Aug. 18, 2004, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was a resident of the Bertrand Nursing Facility for the past two years.

Born May 14, 1921, in New Madrid, daughter of the late James Dawson and Lula Ann Sanders Henry, she was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella, Altar Sodality and Legion of Mary. She had worked in the printing and circulation departments of the Standard Democrat. As a homemaker, she loved her family and friends, cooking, crafting and gardening.

On Aug. 17, 1946, in the Old St. Louis Cathedral, she married Joseph R. Schaefer who preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2003.

Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and George Hale of Sikeston and Jackie and Joe Bill Davis of Benton; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Davene Schaefer of Sikeston; one sister, Katie Roper of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, J.B. Henry of Largo, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Loy Anne Brown of Merritt Island, Fla., Lisa James of Sikeston, Kassie Jones of St. Louis, Leslie Ballard of Gainesville, Fla., Adam Davis of Nashville, Tenn., Matt Davis of Cape Girardeau and Martin Schaefer and Terri Rhea Schaefer of Sikeston; and five great-grandchildren, Bayleah James, Jordan Elizabeth James and Carson James of Sikeston and Madelyn Brown and Logan Brown of Merritt Island.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Welton Henry, Dennis Henry and A.T. Henry; and three sisters, Alleen Ruddle, Colleen Thornbrough and Doris Carney.

Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Monsignor Stephen Schneider, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Jim Null, Danny Owens, George Hale, David Moyers, Lanny Satterfield and Steve Hunter.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Charles Lee, Dan Armour, Stan McGill, Charles Beaudean, Louise Shaver, Annabel Conners, Laura Kennedy and Rita Miller.
