SIKESTON - The rain stayed away during the 52nd Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo on Thursday, but Mother Nature wasn't totally kind as the temperature dropped into the 50s on what is normally an unbearably hot time of the year.

The weather forced rodeo fans to bring out jackets and blankets, but it didn't keep them away from another exciting night of rodeo action.

In the bareback riding event, James Boudreaux scored 77 points to take first place. Zach Dishman followed up in second place with 75 points while Steve Thorburn finished third with 74 points.

In the saddlebronc riding event, Tom Reeves captured first place with an 83-point ride. Bret Franks took second with 80 points. Steve Dollarhide finished in third with 77 points while Jesse Miller took fourth with 76 points.

In the bull riding event, Clint Craig's ride of 94 points easily won him first place over the rest of the field. J. Byrd Morrow took second with 81 points followed by Howdy Cloud with 74 points in third place.

In the calf roping event, Cody Ohl took first with a time of 8.9 seconds. Cimarron Boardman finished in second with a time of 9.0. Kolby Ungeheuer took third place with a time of 9.1 seconds.

In the steer wrestling event, Teddy Johnson took first with a time of 4.3. Cody Browne finished in second at 4.6 seconds. Charlie Griffin and Phil Clayman tied for third place with each posting a 4.9 second time.

In the very competitive barrel racing event, Laura Jane Hyde took first place with a time of 16.35. Jennifer Barron captured second place with a time of 16.43. Sherrylynn Johnson finished in third place with a time of 16.44.

Rodeo action will continue tonight and tomorrow night.
