Speakout 8/19

Thursday, August 19, 2004

I am a new resident of Sikeston and was standing in line at the bank yesterday when I overheard a conversation that chilled me to the bone. A lady was telling another lady in Sikeston of how the Safe House in Sikeston saved her life. And, sadly, I remember when my own daughter married a violent man. She would not listen to me, or dad or her grandparents and married him anyway. After six months, the abuse started. Two years later, sadly enough, we buried our only child. Obviously there is a Safe House here in town. Keep up the good work, ladies. If my daughter had listened and sought help from the Safe House, we would have her with us today. Anyone out there whose children have been abused, or are aware they are going to be abused by anybody, please, for God's sake, get them to listen before it's too late. If our daughter had listened, we would have had her with us now. She's been gone two years now, and the pain never goes away. If you or someone you love needs help, please get it.

I would like to know of anyone who buys old coins, money and silver silverware for a fair price. Please leave a number in SpeakOut.

I'll bet you Democrats are mad about the new TV ads, like the one put out by the veterans against Kerry. Kerry started the attack ads against President Bush during the presidential primary season. Kerry keeps pointing out his four-month tour of duty in Vietnam, as though that experience makes him presidential material. It was the Democratic Party that attacked President Bush's National Guard status. Remember, what goes around, comes around. Now for the expose's of Kerry's Senate record - 20 years of liberal voting records. Now for the expose to Kerry, debating Kerry on the issues, how he voted versus what he says now. You see, the chickens are coming home to roost. I hope Bush skins Kerry's hide and nails him to the wall in the presidential debate. Truth will win out. Just wait and see. I predict Bush is going to win on Nov. 2.

Look at the number of factories have closed since President Bush has been in office. Look at the economy, minimum wage hasn't had an increase in four years. We cannot stand another four years of having Bush in office. John Kerry plans to raise the minimum wage and I believe he will help the poor and middle class people. Vote on the Democratic ticket because the Democrats are for the poor and middle class and the Republicans are for the rich.

I would like to address the conduct of officers of VFW Post 3174. Members were supposed to receive a shirt if they were going to work at the rodeo. There are still several veterans who have not received their shirts. These are World War II veterans who have supported the club for years. The bar maids, who are not veterans, received shirts. If there was a mix-up in the order, it needs to be rectified. If Jim Baker had been here, this would not have happened. He would never make any difference in our veterans. If you can't treat them all the same, don't give out any shirts at all.

Just think, folks, about what all the Democratic Party has brought us. Same sex marriage, abortion, homosexuality - you name it and they've brought it.

Support your candidate. If you support the policies and character of George W. Bush, please drive with your headlights on during the day this coming Friday. If you support John Kerry, please drive with your headlights off that night.

Congratulations! You just won the Speakout of the Month Award.
