Sikeston had tied the score against the bigger Eagle team when Adrian Dixon picked up a fumble and scored from seven yards out with 4:33 left in the game.
NMCC was able to march for the game-winning touchdown before time ran out.
"We saw some positives tonight," said Sikeston coach Steve Bays. "Obviously we have some things to work on, but the kids are willing to give the effort. As long as they do that, we can teach them and do some good things with that."
Both teams defenses dominated the game. NMCC scored its first touchdown in the first quarter.
Sikeston kept the Eagles at bay from there until the final drive of the game.
"At times our defense played pretty hard," said Bays. "We had kids flying to the ball, but we can always do better. To hold them to 14 points, that's not too bad. They've already played a game and they're a pretty good team. Our kids got to play in a game for the first time and they saw what game-speed is like. It was a good learning experience."
Sikeston will host Kennett at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Sikeston ninth grade team will play at Dexter on Thursday at 6 p.m.
