SIKESTON - Cpl. Eugene Godwin, now stationed in England, has written his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Odes Godwin, that he recently spent a furlough in London and several small cities in that country.

SIKESTON - Directors of the Security National Bank of Sikeston, N.E. Fuchs, A.C. Riley, Dr. Leo A. Bruce, Lincoln Scherer and Robert A. Dempster, conducted an organizational meeting Tuesday and elected Mr. Fuchs president.

SIKESTON - Kendall Sikes, one of the original fund-raising chairmen for Missouri Delta Community Hospital expansion plan, and Mrs. Ozie Reeves, past president of the hospital's ladies auxiliary, broke ground, signifying the start of the hospital's construction program Tuesday afternoon. Clearing of trees on the hospital grounds started today in preparation for construction.

SIKESTON - Students from Southwest Elementary recently participated in a photo contest sponsored by Kodak and Kmart. The students had to shoot six things that are beautiful, six things that need improvement and then select their best shot. The grand prize winner of a Kodak Star 435 35mm camera was Bradley Deere. First place winner was Celeste Colley and second place went to Ross Gelsheimer.

POPLAR BLUFF - The Sikeston Bulldogs made the most of their second chance Monday. The Bulldogs had a 1-0 deficit erased by the rain delay Thursday and came back with a 5-2 victory at Joe Whitely Field Monday.


NEW MADRID - The New Madrid Chamber of Commerce will host an 1860s Southern Ball June 15.
