SIKESTON - Lt. John Tandy has been named acting captain and Troop Commander of Troop E of the Missouri Highway Patrol, succeeding Captain O.L. Wallis, who has been appointed acting superintendent of the organization.

CHARLESTON - Miss Diana Barnhill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Barnhill, was crowned queen of the Mississippi County fair at the Jaycees' grounds. She was one of 11 beauties entered in the Jaycee-sponsored contest.

BERTRAND - L.J. Schwab, mayor of Bertrand, has received tentative approval of the city's request for a $120,000 Farmers Home Administration loan to install a municipal water system.

SIKESTON - The final plat and rezoning for Hunter Acres West Sixth Addition was unanimously approved by the City Council Thursday night. A $237,975 bid from James Lincoln and Associates of Dexter for construction of the city's new fire station, to be located at the corner of Ables Road and Illinois Avenue, was rejected.

SIKESTON - Lonnie Masters was recently named the winner of the Veterans Park Committee Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun. Steve Stevenson, committee member, presented Masters with the prize. Leroy Parmenter, committee member, and Debbie Smith, assistant manager at Wal-Mart, were also present for the presentation of the gun. The raffle was to raise money to bring a military tank to the park.


SIKESTON - Area farmers will be among the first in the U.S. and Canada to see an all new John Deere 8000 Series tractor during an open house from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Aufdenberg Equipment.
