SIKESTON - Violetta Anderson McGee, 89, died Sept. 19, 2004, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews.
Born Dec. 16, 1914, in Golconda, Ill., daughter of the late Henry Orson and Carrie Pinetta Bonnell Anderson, she was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as a deaconess and secretary of the church board. She was a teacher for Portageville and Marston schools and retired as a third grade teacher at Lee Hunter Elementary School in Sikeston.
In 1963, she was named Sikeston Woman of the Year, was past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member and past officer for the American Association of University Women, past president of the Sikeston Community Teachers Association, a life member of the Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) Alumni Association and was a cooperating classroom teacher on the SEMO College staff. She also served on the executive boards for the New Madrid County Farm Bureau, American Red Cross, 4-H Clubs and Girl Scouts of America, served as a gray lady for Missouri Delta Medical Center and also served on the Sikeston Park Board.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jackie Sue Fakes; two brothers, Adrian Anderson and Glenn Anderson; and two sisters, Opal Wentzell and Bessie Lewis.
Surviving are her son-in-law, Jim Fakes of Sikeston; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Dr. Allen Shriver, pastor of the First Christian Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be: Jerry Lasater, John David Moore, Jim Fakes, Phil Boyer, Sonny Alcorn and Charles Gardner.
