BERTRAND -- A Bertand man is in custody for the Saturday shooting death of a Charleston man.
Bobby Joe Burke, 25, of Charleston died around 11:50 p.m. Saturday at a home on Highway 62 near Bertrand. Mississippi County Coroner Terry A. Parker pronounced Burke dead at the scene.
Burke died of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. Results from an autopsy, which was conducted Sunday at the Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington, were not available.
According to Mississippi County Sheriff Larry Turley, a 9-1-1 call was received after midnight at the residence of Fred Drury.
Turley said that 54-year-old Drury is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond on charges of second degree murder and armed criminal action.
Events leading up to the shooting are unclear at this time. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Scene Team is heading the investigation along with the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.
"The investigation will continue," said Turley.
