Marijuana discovered during investigation

SIKESTON -- Three persons, including a Sikeston man, face charges for possession of marijuana following searches by the SEMO Drug Task Force Tuesday.

At 12:40 a.m. Tuesday officers from the SEMO Drug Task Force served a search warrant at Morehouse residence. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of 10 pounds of marijuana. The occupants of the home were taken to the New Madrid County Sheriff's Office pending filing of charges by the prosecutor for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. According to the Drug Task Force the individuals were released due to health problems; however arrest warrants will be sought on the two at a later date.

A continuation of the investigation resulted in a second search warrant being served at 24 Palace Court in Sikeston at 3:40 a.m. This search warrant resulted in the seizure of three pounds of marijuana.

Jimmy Drake, 35, was taken to the Scott County Sheriff's Office pending filing of charges by the prosecutor for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Warrants were subsequently obtained on Drake for possession of marijuana.

Based on information obtained through the investigation, a third search warrant was obtained for a residence in Lowndes, which is located in rural Wayne County. At 1 p.m. the search warrant was served which resulted in an additional six pounds of marijuana and 10 firearms being recovered.

The occupants of the residence, James Burton Jr., 51, and Denyce Stirling, 57, were arrested for possession of marijuana. Both individuals were taken to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office pending filing of charges by the prosecutor for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Warrants were subsequently obtained on Stirling and Butron for possession of marijuana.

Assisting SEMO Drug Task Force were officers with Missouri State Highway Patrol, Butler County Sheriff's Department, Scott County Sheriff's Department, Wayne County Sheriff's Department, New Madrid County Sheriff's Department and Drug Enforcement Administration.
