BENTON -- By popular demand, "The Best of Scott County" is back.
Last year, the inaugural edition of "The Best of" provided visitors to the county's Web site with the opportunity to vote on everything from the best burger in the county to the best place to take a first date.
"We got a lot of response last year," Scott County Developer Joel Evans said.
This time, "The Best of Scott County" will include 15 categories. "Last year was 10," Evans said. "We've added a few categories and changed a few."
The most popular categories used last year will be back for this year's edition, according to Evans. Returning categories are: Best Burger, Best Place to Take a First Date, Best Barbecue, Best Fine Dining, Best Family Dining, Best Place to Pick a Gift for a Special Occasion, Best Breakfast and Best Annual Event.
New categories will be: Best Pizza, Best Place to Go for Family Fun, Best Ethnic Restaurant (Asian, Mexican, etc.), Best Grocery Store, Best Florist, Best Lunch and Best Retail Customer Service.
Each vote allows Web site visitors to let businesses and organizations know that their efforts are appreciated, according to Evans.
"The last new category, Best Retail Customer Service, is in my opinion one of the most prestigious," he said. "The recipient of this title should embody excellence in customer service flavored with Scott County's southern hospitality."
Voting begins Friday and will continue through the end of the year. Votes can be entered by following "The Best of" links on the county's Web site at www.scottcountymo.com.
"Voting is free and anonymous," Evans said. "We don't collect any demographics and there is no way to identify a particular voter."
Winners will be announced during the second week of January.
