SIKESTON - A new stage curtain and stage lights are being installed this week at the high school auditorium.
SIKESTON - Charles M. Meier, Jackson, director and vice president of the Federal Land Bank Association of Sikeston, was re-elected director at the association's annual meeting at the American Legion Hall. Afterward, in the association's offices, directors elected him president to succeed M.C. Greer.
SIKESTON - The 12th annual Sikeston Invitational tips off tonight with three games - Blytheville vs. Dexter at 6 p.m.; Poplar Bluff vs. New Madrid County Central at 7:30 p.m.; and defending tourney champ Cape Central vs. Notre Dame at 9 p.m. The host team meets Charleston at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
NEW MADRID - In case of disaster, New Madrid will not be without emergency communication services. Doug Foley, county director for the New Madrid Area of Civil Defense, and Bill Klein, the city's emergency management coordinator, explained to the City Council Monday evening that the group is in the process of raising funds for an emergency communication repeater and its installation.
CHARLESTON - New Madrid County Central's fuel tank started to leak - albeit a trickle - midway through the third quarter. It was just enough for Charleston to follow the trail. Then Corey Frazier lit a spark. Frazier exploded for a three-pointer off a designed screen at the third-quarter buzzer to tie the score at 41. The Blue Jays took the lead with the first basket of the fourth quarter and never looked back, cruising to a 52-47 victory in the first round of the Sikeston Invitational Tournament.>
