Racer captures first career late model win at Marin Raceway

Tuesday, September 11, 2001

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- After winning last week's NASCAR Winston West race, Sikeston native Sammy Potashnick visited victory lane once again this weekend at Mesa Marin Raceway in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model race in Bakersfield, Calif. It took Potashnick just four Late Model starts at Mesa Marin to garner a win.

Riding high after his Winston West win last weekend in Salt Lake City, Potashnick won the first Twin 50 of the evening at Mesa Marin. Starting the race from the outside pole in 2nd place, Potashnick immediately took the lead and maintained the lead for all 50 laps of the feature race.

"We finally got our set up right," Potashnick said with much due thanks to new Crew Chief Chris Diederich, "I found my line and the Lucas Oil Chevrolet was running great. Mesa Marin is a great track to race at. The competition's tough, the fan's are great. We couldn't ask for more," he added, "The whole team really enjoys being able to do some local racing at Mesa on the weekend too. It gives us all something to look forward to during the off weeks of our Winston West schedule."

Potashnick and the SP Racing Lucas Oil team plan on running in the next Late Model event at Mesa Marin Raceway this Saturday.
