Call 471-6636

I am calling about an obituary that was published Oct. 15 for Marjorie Jaeger. The obituary said she had retired in 1988. She had started work in a college library in 1988 and worked there until this year. She had to finally quit because of her health.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and you are correct. We certainly apologize to the family for this error.

I would like to SpeakOut about how the Sikeston Eagles treats its members. They advertised a big band for Oct. 20, Albatross. Everybody showed up for the dance but nobody was there. They had rented the hall out to some sorority, so the members were thrown out for the whole evening. I do wish people would pay attention to what goes on at these clubs. They are private clubs and members should come first.

The event that was originally scheduled had been canceled and the private fraternity party was scheduled after the first event had been canceled.

I think we should stop and think where all this trouble is and everything, who spent most of the time in foreign countries, roaming around, and didn't stay in the United States to do his job. I hate to say it, but I think he's responsible for all these problems with the foreign countries and every one of them has turned against the United States except England. Where was he when they bombed in New York? He was overseas. I just cannot believe that anyone else would do this? What business did he have overseas and roaming around and all of them are mad at us?

Two nice men came today and trimmed the limbs that were hanging over my fence. I live on Gladys Street and I'm so thankful. I want them to know I really appreciate it. One had a red pickup truck and the other man had a white one. I am so thankful to them.

I read in the Oct. 21 Standard Democrat about Ms. Johnson at the Sikeston Food Bank. I feel sorry for her that people are so ungrateful for all she does for everyone and she is so concerned about the food for them. I gave a friend of mine some breaded catfish nuggets one time. She laid them up and the coating came off and she saw that black skin and thought I had given her some bad fish and she threw them out. The people let that sandwich thaw out. That's all they did. People should be ashamed for doing stuff like that and who don't appreciate her no more than that.

In response to the person who supposedly wound up in the hospital after eating sandwiches from the Food Bank, and in reading the response from the person at the food bank, you've got to realize that when you give somebody something, they expect all of the very best because they're too lazy to go to work on their own and don't know the value of what it is.
