DEXTER - A son was born to First Sgt. and Mrs. Harold Lee Daniel in Dexter on Saturday at the General Hospital. This is their first child. Sgt. Daniel is stationed in Ireland with the MPs and is a brother of Mrs. John Skelton of this city.

SIKESTON - Lynn Twitty, superintendent of schools, who is also a colonel in the Marine Corps Reserves, will be flown to Memphis tomorrow to speak at a gathering of 2,500 Marines at the Memphis Naval Air Base. The occasion is the 189th anniversary of the establishment of the Marine Corps.

SIKESTON - It was a game of big plays - Poplar Bluff's big plays - that doomed Sikeston to its fourth one-outing postseason. Bluff emerged from a physical defensive battle to throttle Sikeston's running and to control the clock Wednesday, claiming a 17-6 high school football win in the 5A District 2 playoff game.

SIKESTON - Shelia Polk received the Award of Merit presented Thursday night during a banquet of the Okeechobee District Boy Scout volunteers. Emcees for the event were Circuit Judge Tony Heckemeyer and District Scout Executive Kelly Greer.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Eighth Grade football team, with a 5-0 record, received a special trophy to be displayed at the Junior High School. Justin Pobst and Nathan Wallace participated in the signing of the ball that will sit in the trophy case also.

CHARLESTON - Charleston's Corea Clark moved the ball during the second half of Wednesday's 47-12 sectional round loss to the No. 8 ranked Caruthersville Tigers. Clark, a senior, finished with two receptions for 64 yards.
