Speakout (11/26)

Wednesday, November 26, 2003

My son lost his wallet at Huck's in Sikeston. He's not worried about the money (although he had just cashed his paycheck) but he needs his driver's license and minister license that were inside. Please call 262-2421. No questions will be asked. He just needs his licenses back.

Regarding the caller who stated that the History Channel offered compelling evidence, I just have to ask, what evidence? There was no evidence; only rumors, innuendoes and people making unsubstantiated claims and statements. The History Channel, along with numerous conspiracy buffs and three major investigations have come up with no real, factual or physical evidence that no one but Lee Harvey Oswald killed President Kennedy. Most of the History Channel's program actually aired in the mid-1980s on PBS' Nova series. Most of the information has since been discredited. For a real look at real evidence, read Gerald Poster's "Case Closed." He deals with factual evidence and disproves much of the conspiracy theories with facts.

Someone needs to address that fact that the young girls who work in the office where you cash checks, pay bills, etc., at a grocery store in Sikeston are way too slow. Instead of taking care of customers, they leave you standing there for three minutes, looking like a fool, while they talk to cashiers, other workers or on the phone. Then, when they finally do come around to help you, they stop to help someone at the cash register, talk on the phone or talk to another staff member. I wouldn't complain if this only happened once in a while, or if I was the only complaining. But this happens every time I'm there and I'm not the only one complaining. Maybe it's their job to leave you and help someone else, but I thought it was first come, first served.

We cannot mention the name of the business, however, we suggest you call and speak to the store manager.

How can you claim your paper is a "news" paper for this community when you will not even publish the reports on the status of our drinking water for all to see, not for each person individually to have to ask.

We answered your question about levels of atrozine in Sikeston's water, but here it is again for those who may have missed it: Results of tests for Sikeston water are published annually. Call BMU at 475-3229 and they will forward a copy of the annual test report to you by e-mail or regular mail.
