PORTAGEVILLE - Hillard Walter Snelling, 69, died July 5, 2003, at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
Born Oct. 24, 1933, in Manila, Ark., son of the late Walter V. and Mary Lillie Brigman Snelling, he was a member of the Boekerton Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He retired from Plastene Supply Co. in Portageville.
On July 18, 1957, in Water Valley, Miss., he married Vonnie Lee Nowell who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, DeWayne Snelling of Marrero, La., and Jeffery Snelling of Mooresville, Ind.; two daughters, Janet Attwel of Neelyville and Rita Thorley of Louisville, Ohio; two brothers, Willard Snelling of Springdale, Ark., and James Snelling of Bristol, Tenn.; one sister, Opal Dial of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Adam Forrester, Alex Forrester, Daniel Forrester, Melony Forrester, Eric Wilson, Michelle Snelling, Travis Tuttle and Austin Lee Snelling; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Grady Snelling and Johnny Snelling; and two sisters, Lois Snelling and an infant sister.
Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Ken Jones, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
