CHARLESTON -- Sylvia McKinzie Wilkerson, 83, died at 7:50 p.m. Aug. 13, 2004, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Oct. 4, 1920, in Fisk, daughter of the late Jesse Lawrence and Bertha Adella Brothers McKinzie, she was a member of the General Baptist Church and teacher of the youth Sunday school class while growing up in Fisk. She worked as a stenographer and claims technician for many years at the Division of Employment Security in Sikeston until her retirement. In 1938, she moved to Charleston, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for young adults and adult women.
On Dec. 31, 1938, she married Robert Buford Wilkerson who preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1978.
One sister, Flossie L. Shelton; and one niece, Celesta Klein, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two nieces, Judy Shelton of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Susie Sundburg of Salt Lake City, Utah; and two great-nephews, Paul and Colby Klein of Bellflower, Calif.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Keith Huffman, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Ash Hill Cemetery near Fisk.
