Monday, December 29, 2003

SIKESTON -- A mobilization departure ceremony is scheduled for Charlie Company of the 1140th Engineer Combat Battalion at 4 p.m. Jan. 3 at the Sikeston High School Field House.

Maj. Edward Gargas of the 1140th Engineer Combat Battalion Headquarters will conduct the departure ceremony. Other guest speakers will be in attendance.

"The company will be in military formation on the Field House floor and will remain there until the ceremony is over," said 1st Sgt. Dan Armour. "At the end of the ceremony, soldiers will be released by me and return to the armory."

Members of Charlie Company don't know how many people will attend the ceremony, but they anticipate somewhere between 1,000 and 3,000 people, Armour said.

Sikeston Department of Public Safety will provide the Color Guard and security during the one-hour ceremony. Charlie Company is based in Sikeston with detachments in Charleston, Portageville and Caruthersville. The public is invited to attend.
