SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Ellen Draughon Sereque, 97, died Jan. 1, 2004, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of James Harris and Anna Northen Draughon was a Confederate lieutenant as a teenager and with the Ace Clubs House in Texarkana. A graduate of Memphis State (Tenn.) University she taught school for five years. She graduated as a registered nurse from the Massachusetts General Hospital Training School and was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Her husband, William Sereque, preceded her in death in 1996.
Survivors include: two sons, Dr. Peter Sereque of Spartanburg and Christopher Sereque of Seattle, Wash.; two grandsons, David Christopher Sereque of Boiling Springs and John Alfred Sereque of Spartanburg; and two great-granddaughters.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Draughon; and three brothers, John Marshall Draughon and former Sikeston, Mo., residents Henry Arnold Draughon and Harris Northen Draughon.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, N.C., with the Rev. Sam Poston officiating.
McFarland Funeral Chapel of Tryon was in charge of arrangements.
