SIKESTON -- The Heartland wrestling team placed 10 out of 12 wrestlers at the Ozark Championship recently.
"I felt like the team wrestled very tough," said Heartland coach Dan Ruby. "We went into the tournament not knowing what to expect. The kids stepped up and did very well."
The team had two first place finishers with Kenneth Moy and Stephen Wheatley winning their weight classes. Dustin Ruby came home with a second place finish. Blake Angle went 3-1 on the day and also took second.
Fourth place finishers were Katarious Harrington, Trevor Wheatley and Ryan Mitchell. Cody Middleton took fifth in his division, and his five-year-old brother Garrett Middleton took sixth against competition two years older than him.
"We had some very good matches, and I also got to see some things we need to work on also," said Ruby. "Overall, I am proud of the boys."
The Heartland wrestling team will be back in action this Saturday, competing in the St. Charles Lights Out Tournament.
